What are we going to do with the internet over the next ten years? What are YOU doing with the internet now?
Is this scenario familiar – You log on, check your email and scan through
15 or 16 totally useless subscription emails, open up your browser , skip
past the start up portal to visit your two most favourite of your favourite
sites, check your Themestream stats. And then sit there staring at the
screen for a minute before closing your connection.
You probably have a hundred sites bookmarked which you never visit
anymore. You don’t delete them because you never know when you might need
information from the UFO Documents Index.
If this is you then don’t despair, you are in good company. In fact I
would say enjoy it while you can.
Just to help you get the most out of this transient phase of on-line life
I have prepared a few words of guidance, as usual, all my advice is totally
disposable according to your own personal whims.
Firstly, do not connect to the net immediately after booting up your
computer. If you have just had an idea for an article or a short story then
open up Word or Word-pro and start getting your idea down on paper. You will
be surprised just how much time you can spend being creative once the muse
takes you.
Secondly, Plan your online session before clicking away at that log-on
dialogue box. Decide what you want to do and in what order. Get the business
done first before you decide to browse around. You might find that as you
are taking care of business that you get new aims for your ‘free’ time on
the net.
Generally, decide just who it is in your address book that you really
want to keep in touch with and send them one email each day, even if it is
just to say hello – think of how nice it feels for you when you spot a
personal email in all that junk that clutters up your inbox every day – be
nice, do the same for somebody else.
After you have done all this……Log off!
If you are a writer, write!
If you are a programmer, a web site designer…..then design!
Eat!
Have a coffee!
Go see your mother and father!
See it’s not all that bad, but make the most of it because I think things
are going to change.
